Research
Assistant, Soil
and Water Lab
Biological and Environmental
Engineering
Cornell University
Although I grew up in Southern California, I've been
living in Alaska for about 10 years. I originally moved
to Juneau in 1996 to attend the University
of Alaska Southeast in Juneau. I graduated in 2001
with a B.S. in Environmental
Science, and later stuck around to help manage the
environmental sciences lab and website, eventually working
as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technician
for the Geographic
Information Network of Alaska (GINA), a statewide
University of Alasak spatial data initiative. I earned
a minor in Mathematics during this time. My primary
research experience is in glaciology and water resources
though I have also assisted on dendrochronology, GPS,
elementry-school nature education, and assorted other
projects. I recently went back to school for a Master's
of Science in Biological
and Environmental Engineering, focusing on water
resources, at Cornell
University in Ithaca, New York. While in school,
I manage the Soil
and Water Lab website and host some Internet Map
Services and the Variable
Source Area Hydrology website. You can find more
info about my research here or
check out my
Cornell web page.
I
first learned HTML and basic JavaScripting for the web
in 1996, and have consistently focused on creating clean,
functional designs. I design and maintain many different
kinds of sites, from large, 150+ page catalogs to single
business contact pages. Community
Services Education, the non-credit arm of Glendale
Community College, was my first client, and continues
to be one of my favorite sites, as so many people turn
to CSE for fun, life-enriching workshops and courses
to help them manage stress, focus their creativity,
or prepare for a new career. I also maintain a handful
of simple business sites consisting of only a few basic
pages, such as the Independent
Electric site.
